KUCHING: Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri has called on farmers and smallholders to embrace modern technology in their farming practices to promote sustainable agriculture.
He was speaking at the 39th General Meeting of the Kalaka Regional Farmers Association (PPK) on today (July 26).
During the event held at the Dayak House near Saratok, he stressed the importance of cultivating crops that can withstand the test of time while adapting to the demands of Industrial Revolution 4.0.
He emphasised the need for farmers to deepen their knowledge in agriculture by incorporating up-to-date technology.
“By adopting innovative and creative methods, farmers can ensure the long-lasting sustainability of their produce and thrive in today’s market, ultimately increasing their income.”
Mohamad also commended the significant role played by PPK Kalaka in supporting farmers, especially smallholders, through various government-sponsored programmes.
The assistance provided, including advisory services and gardening supplies, has greatly contributed to boosting the farming community.
He assured that plans are underway to enhance farming infrastructure in the Saratok area, such as upgrading sluice gates and constructing garden and farm roads.
During the event, Mohamad announced a financial aid of RM20,000 to the Kalaka PPK.
The meeting witnessed the participation of PPK Kalaka members, along with chairman of the Board of Directors, Dalang Untol, and other exco members.
