SARATOK: Longhouse communities who wish to build new homes can take advantage of interest-free loans of up to RM30,000 per door through the Longhouse Loan Scheme provided by the Sarawak government.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said this included a longhouse in Selambong, which is now 39 years old.
“I was informed by Tr Rengan Bunyat about their proposal to build a new longhouse not far from the original site.
“I strongly support this, including being ready to help them get the loan scheme offered by the Sarawak government.
“For the preparation of the site, I will also help the residents to level the site area,” he said after seeing for himself the site on yoday(Feb 21).Mohamad reminded them that before construction, they should ensure that the chosen site is safe.
“That’s why research by the residents themselves is very important. My suggestion is for this plan to get everyone’s approval.
“And another thing, the structure must have sufficient fire hydrants as a precaution against fire,” he said.
He added that at the last DUN sitting, the Sarawak government had provided an allocation of RM50mil for the Longhouse Loan Scheme.
Since its introduction in 2020, it has benefitted approximately 218 longhouses throughout Sarawak involving 4,747 doors with an allocation of RM142mil.
