KUCHING: A conducive environment can have a positive impact on the development of the younger generations, said Tupong assemblyman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.
He was speaking at the launch of the second series of Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Inclusivity with Community programme at Taman Mawar, Kampung Gita Tengah on Sunday (Sept 27).
At the programme, he also declared open the RM120,000 DBKU Community Library at Kampung Gita Tengah. The library will also serve as a youth centre.
The library cum youth centre was set up at an abandoned shoplot building; three of the five shoplots were renovated for the project.
According to Fazzrudin, previously, the abandoned building, which was covered with trash and wild bushes, was used for unhealthy/illegal activities.
Fazzrudin explained the main objective of the project was to develop young people into successful individuals.
He added that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg supported the idea of transforming the building into a library cum youth centre.
“Now, we are still in the process of finding the previous shop owners to discuss future plans and transformation,” he explained.
DBKU mayor Datuk Junaidi Reduan explained that every department in the commission had to engage with the residents in selected areas.
Ketua Kaum, Mohd Nor Allat thanked Junaidi and Fazzrudin for the programme which enhanced closer ties among the residents of Kampung Gita Tengah.
He asked them to open a small hawker centre for hawkers to make a living.
