LAWAS: Fire victims at Kampung Pemukat, Kuala Lawas here will continue receiving assistance, including rebuilding their homes, says Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
He said the cause of the fire and the total amount of losses are still under investigation.
“We will continue to assist the fire victims, including rebuilding their homes in the same location.
“Many forms of assistance have been extended, and we are working on how to help. The houses will be rebuilt on the same site but should be spaced out to avoid being too close together.
“For this, we have instructed the Land and Survey Department to collaborate with other agencies, and we will seek funds to help them. Additionally, a committee will be established for coordination purposes.”
Awang Tengah told reporters this after his visit to the fire victims, recently.
The fire incident, which occurred on June 23, completely destroyed five houses, leaving 73 residents without shelter.
Awang Tengah, who is also the Bukit Sari assemblyman, has asked for time to secure funds for the reconstruction and to ensure that every fire victim receives the same allocation.
Furthermore, he mentioned that they would also consider long-term plans to expand Kampung Pemukat to avoid congestion there.
“We want to transform the village with an expansion project, including facilities such as electricity, water, roads, concrete drains, and leveled land.
“This will provide opportunities for our children who are already married to build houses.”
Regarding the documents that were destroyed in the fire, he said that police reports need to be made to facilitate future arrangements.
