KUCHING: A total of 420 vaccines have been given to residents of Kampung Semeba as part of the mobile outreach vaccination programme.
Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang said the vaccination programme was the fourth of its kind held in his constituency.
He explained that the programme targets the elderly, disabled and those who do not have the MySejahtera application.
“This morning I saw many senior citizens and people using wheelchairs coming to receive their vaccinations.
“I hope that with this programme, many residents in Batu Kitang would have received their vaccines,” he told reporters during a visit to the Kampung Semeba multipurpose hall today.
He also said it is estimated that at least 80 to 90 percent of residents in his constituency have received the first dose of the vaccine.
In addition, he said the programme received encouraging response from the public.
“All the residents of Batu Kitang want to be vaccinated, there are only a few who are hesitant to receive the vaccine but they have changed their minds and agreed to receive the vaccine,” said Lo.
In the meantime, he expressed his gratitude to Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman, for approving the programme.
“I would also like to thank the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Sarawak for providing a bus and ambulances and also to Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian for coordinating volunteer nurses and doctors for this programme,” he said.
