MUKAH: The residents of Kampung Tellian Tengah and Kampung Tellian Ulu have worked together to rebuild an old well.
Known by locals as Teba Tuanku (Telaga Tuanku), the well is located near the Sungai Genai cemetery in Kampung Tellian Tengah.
According to Ketua Kaum of Kampung Tellian Tengah Bonaventure Juana Lupieh, the well is believed to have been built during the reign of the Sultanate of Brunei.
“Based on the stories of the elders, the villagers dug a well and requested Tuanku Ali (who was ruling at the time) to bless it.
“The water from the well was later used by the villagers for medical purposes.
“Seeing the effectiveness of the (well’s) water in curing various diseases, it was then named as Teba Tuanku,” explained Bonaventure.
He explained the conservation work, which began last February, had used an allocation provided by the people’s representatives. Sarawakians or anyone who wants to see the magic well is welcome to visit Kampung Tellian Tengah in Mukah.
