KUCHING: KANTIN at The Granary has achieved a remarkable milestone by being nominated for World Culinary Awards’ Best Restaurant in Malaysia 2024.
Competing with eight other prestigious establishments, including Michelin two-star restaurants in Kuala Lumpur, KANTIN stands as the sole representative from Sarawak, highlighting the region’s culinary excellence.
“The other nominees are DEWAKAN, a Michelin two-star fine dining restaurant and three-time award winner; FLOUR Restaurant, known for its modern fine Indian cuisine with French influences; Fuego, a Spanish restaurant and rooftop bar; Hard Rock Café, famous for its burgers and rock-n-roll ambiance; Marble 8, a Michelin Select premier steakhouse specialising in dry-aged beef; Marini’s on 57, an ultra-chic Italian restaurant and whisky lounge; Nobu, renowned for its Japanese-Peruvian cuisine, and The Ame Souer, celebrated for its 18th-century Renaissance design and siphon coffee,” it said through a statement today.
“This nomination is a significant achievement for KANTIN and a proud moment for Sarawak. It not only highlights the culinary prowess of Sarawak but also sets the stage for KANTIN’s expansion into Kuala Lumpur,” it said.
In support of this honour, the KANTIN team recently visited Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
During the visit, Abdul Karim acknowledged that being nominated is already a significant achievement, regardless of the final outcome.
He provided valuable guidance and encouragement to the team, reinforcing the pride and recognition that comes with this nomination.
Voting for the World Culinary Awards is open to the public, including culinary professionals, media personnel, and customers, and will continue until August 30.
