KAPIT: Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Native Laws and Customs) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat has called upon athletes selected from Kapit for the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) to give their best efforts in winning gold medals.
Addressing the eight athletes selected from the town, the Bukit Goram assemblyman said this proves Kapit’s capability to contribute gold medals to the Sarawak contingent.
“Today, all leaders and community leaders are present to support the athletes involved. We want to see Kapit listed among the contributors of gold medals to the Sarawak contingent.
“Don’t worry, if you win a gold medal, come to me, I will help you (get rewards for your contribution). The important thing is for our athletes in Kapit to win gold medals,” he said.
He made these remarks during the launch of the Baton Run programme for the 21st SUKMA at the Kapit Civic Centre today (19 May).
Some 500 participants engaged in the sixth leg of the SUKMA baton run, which will continue until reaching Kuching.
Speaking about the programme, Jamit said it aims to promote and publicise SUKMA and Para SUKMA to all local communities across Sarawak.
“We want every corner of Sarawak to feel the excitement of SUKMA and Para SUKMA, not only in the nine divisions hosting the competitions but in all divisions and districts in Sarawak,” he added.
As the host of SUKMA 2024, he said Sarawak is entrusted with the responsibility to provide a conducive environment, offer lasting support and ensure a meaningful experience for all participants.
“I am confident that with support from all parties, we can make SUKMA 2024 a successful event that leaves a positive impact on the development of national sports,” he said.
