KAPIT: A ‘ngiling bidai’ to mark the end of Gawai Dayak was performed at St Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic church here.

The ‘ngiling bidai’ was also an opportunity for the Catholic faithful comprising various ethnic groups to celebrate together and further strengthen ties.

Among the activities held were a children’s ‘Kumang’ and ‘Keling’ contest, a cake-eating competition, a ‘tuak’ drinking competition and a blowpipe contest.

The winners received prizes in the form of hampers, religious articles and rosary beads.

Also present were priests Fr Philip Obaso and Fr George Omoto, Parish Council chairman Dewis Lidek, Marian Guild chairperson Angelyana Lee Pui Lan, Chinese Pastoral Committee chairperson Betty Wong, some 350 faithfuls and several church members from Bintangor.
