KUCHING: Preparations are underway to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Kapit Peacemaking Agreement between the Iban and Orang Ulu (Kayan, Kenyah, and Kajang) peoples.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the event is slated for Kapit this December.

“This year marks the centenary of the Kapit Peacemaking Agreement, signed on November 16, 1924. Fort Sylvia witnessed this historic pact, which united the Dayak community in Kapit and signalled the end of the ‘ngayau’ (headhunting) tradition,” he said in a Facebook post today (Aug 4).

Nanta added that various plans are being made for the anniversary celebration.

“My father, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Leonard Linggi Jugah, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Native Laws and Customs) Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat, and I have attended meetings to discuss preparations,” he added.
