Only when they fall sick, then they go to clinic. Health is the most precious thing in life. If we fall sick, we must immediately seek healthcare since health can’t be compromised. When we fall sick, we must follow the advice of the medical officer to take the medication strictly adhering to instruction,” advised Belayong. “If you don’t look after your own health who else is to take care of you? In the olden days in the village, the people slept using the mosquito net to prevent mosquito bite. “Be a moderate drinker, don’t overdose to become drunk and try to lessen your cigarette intake,” Belayong said while officiating at ‘World TB Day 2018 Kapit Divisional Level’ celebration held at Civic Centre in Kapit over the weekend. He lauded Kapit Health Department in collaboration with Kapit Health Clinic, Kapit Hospital for successfully organising the celebration. He said the importance thing is to disseminate the message on the importance of personal health to keep the disease at bay. The President of Persatuan ATAS TB Sarawak Datin Louise Luncha Kayan in her speech said: “Prevention is better than cure. Take care of one’s own health. I am happy the number of tuberculosis patients in Kapit is decreasing. I appeal to the health agency to collaborate with the non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to disseminate this important message of personal hygiene, especially the rural communities. Use the social media, Facebook, WeChat and WhatsApp to spread the message. In order to create awareness of the Tuberculosis, Kapit Health Department in collaboration with the Kapit Hospital Advisory Board organised the ‘World Mycobacterium Tuberculosis Day Celebration on Saturday at Kapit Civic Centre with the theme of the celebration “Wanted: Leaders for a ‘TB-Free World You can make history. End TB” The celebration among others was to create public awareness of Tuberculosis and the importance to seek proper treatment to end the disease. Among the activities held to coincide with the celebration included colouring contest, Radiotalk, exhibition, Q and A session. At the function, Datin Louise presented hamper to the patients while Belayong presented prizes to the winners of the colouring contest that was won by Cecelia Jelo, followed by Cornelia Dennis and Christina Langit in the second and third place while Norlelawati Mohd Hidayat, Jati Dulang and Jessica Jimie received consolation prizes.
