KUCHING: Kapit and Song have been placed under the movement control order (MCO) effective Feb 2 to 15.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee, in a statement on Sunday (Jan 31), said this came on the heels of the Pasai Cluster which has continued to spread unabated with the total positive cases at 1,934 as of Jan 31.

As the Covid-19 cases from the Pasai Cluster had spread to other districts in Sarawak. Sibu Hospital continued to receive soaring number of Covid-19 patients with 127 new patients admitted today.

Currently it has 994 Covid-19 patients with four patients admitted under intensive treatment in ICU, while two others required ventilator support.

In Kapit Hospital (PKRC Kapit), six new patients have been admitted bringing to 93 such patients at the hospital.

To date, Sibu Hospital has recorded 15 Covid-19 related deaths while PKRC Kapit recorded one case.

Pasai Siong, the epicentre of the fourth wave of Covid-19 pandemic outbreak in Sarawak, has adversely impacted Sibu district and other parts of Sarawak.

The outbreak started when an infected individual returned from Johore on Dec 29, 2020 to attend a funeral. She was later tested positive for Covid-19 and contact tracing resulted in mass screening in her longhouse as well as nearby longhouses.

By that time when double digit infections were detected, the disease has been brought back by guests attending the funeral to their respective longhouses across Sarawak, reaching as far as Belaga.

The pandemic resulted in Sibu Division including Kapit and Song to be placed under the movement control order (MCO) to stop the spread of infections.
