A masterplan study on traffic congestion in Kapit division will be carried out.
Local Government Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil said the study would commence by the third quarter of this year and was expected to complete within a period of six to eight months.
He said Kapit town was expanding rapidly, and traffic was expected to increase after the completion of the Sibu-Kapit road next year.
“To ensure sustainable urban planning and development, the Sarawak government is embarking on this comprehensive study and taking into the needs and aspiration of the people and the provision of the various infrastructures, housing, utilities and facilities including traffic management.
Penguang said this in response to a question by Wilson Nyabong Ijang (GPS-Pelagus) on whether the government would allocate funds for the proposed express bus terminal project in Kapit.
On the project, Penguang said it had to be strategically located and must take into account the volume and flow of traffic in and out of Kapit town.
“We will also bid the fund under the 12th Malaysian Plan,” he said.
