KUCHING: Youth Communication Camp (YCC) Patron and Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, recently hosted an appreciation dinner for all YCC sponsors at the Sarawak Club here.

Present were Dato’ Richard Curtis of Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd, Dato’ Chris Chung of Titanium Project Management Bhd, Raymond Tiang of Quality Concrete Bhd, as well as representatives from Sarawak Energy Bhd and members of the YCC Organising Committee.

In his opening remarks, YCC Organising Chairperson, Stanley Ngu, thanked all sponsors for their generous support of the camp since its inception in 2012.

The camp runs entirely on funds raised from the corporate sector as well as support from the former Ministry of Youth and Sports. Participant fees are heavily subsidised up to 80% to enable more deserving students to participate in the camp.

Camp Patron, Karim, spoke of his commitment to the YCC. He said investing time, money and effort in educating the younger generations was the way to creating a better future for the nation.

He also applauded the efforts of the dedicated volunteers who made the YCC a success year after year and emphasised the need for such platforms where students were brought together for a common cause irrespective of race or religious background.

The YCC, formerly known as the Youth Leadership and Communication Camp (YLC), is in its sixth iteration this year.

The 3D2N camp boasts a packed, educational programme where participants will have the opportunity to develop their public speaking and leadership skills as they interact with each other as well as with over 60 Toastmasters, who will be serving as moderators and facilitators of the programme.

YCC 2017 will take place from September 22 to 24, 2017, at Kem PLKN Juara, Serian.

Registration, now ongoing in schools in the Kuching and Serian Division, will close on August 24, 2017.
