KUCHING: Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is the new patron for Kuching Toastmasters Club (KTMC).
KTMC, in a statement today, said Abdul Karim succeeded the late Datuk Dr Yusoff Hanifah.
The club’s president Elton Jong deemed it as a double honour in that the minister has been patron to the Youth Communication Camp, an annual KTMC event, since its inception in 2012.
“The club deems the minister best befits the role both in his position as Minister of Youth and Sports as well as his personal interest in communication and public speaking,” he said.
Abdul Karim, who is also the Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture, recently officiated at the ‘Leos Can Speak’ event held via Zoom.
In his speech, he promised that he and his ministry would do their best to help develop human capital, which students are part of, towards a better society.
“The club looks forward to contributing more to the public in the realm of public speaking and leadership under the new patronage of Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah,” KTMC enthused.
