KUCHING: Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Seri Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah paid his last respects to the late Bill Wolfson Lianie at his home in Kampung Mambong, Jalan Kuching-Penrissen on Tuesday (Nov 8).

The 14-year-old, a national junior hockey player and state junior hockey goalkeeper, died on Sunday.

He had attended the National Hockey Development Programme (NHDP) training camp in Ipoh, Perak on Nov 4 to 5 and was supposed to return home the next day.

Bill who had taken a shower was said to have complained about feeling uneasy before collapsing in his room.

A post-mortem later revealed that he had died of a brain haemorrhage.

“I would like to thank the Ministry of Sports and Youth for taking swift and immediate actions to bring the late Bill’s remains back home on Monday (7 Nov).

“I believe the National Sports Council (MSN) director general, Ahmad Shapawi Ismail is also coming to Kuching to pay his last respects,” said Abdul Karim.

“On behalf of the state government, we would like to express our condolences on the loss of the young athlete. We hope his loved ones will stay strong through this difficult time,” he added.

Abdul Karim was accompanied by Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) chief executive officer Morshidi Fredrick and other officials during the visit.
