KUCHING: They may be just over-zealous but Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah is getting increasingly annoyed that they have been pulling the plug on sports activities.

The Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister’s source of irritation? Several officials from the Ministry of Health and  the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

He argues that the disruption of some sports activities was hampering the development of sports in the state.

“It seems that some of the officers in MoH and SDMC are giving extra focus on us and trying to find problems and faults every time there are sports activities organised by my ministry.

“I am not happy (with this). As the minister, officials in the sports ministry and the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), we have our responsibilities to the state government in developing sports in the state.

“To have people on your back all the time and disrupting what has been planned, it is very unfortunate,” he complained.

He said this at the Sarawak Sports Council (SSC) appreciation dinner at Pullman Hotel on Sunday (Jan 23).

Abdul Karim noted that despite Sarawak having entered Phase 4 of the National Recovery Plan, all the standard operating procedures (SOPs) were being fully complied with in all the activities and programmes held under his ministry.

“Whatever I do, I will do a Covid-19 test on myself first, because in the event that I contract the virus, I do not want other people and the public to be affected by it as well,”he said.
