KUCHING: It is up to the Democratic Action Party (DAP) to file an objection on the disqualification of its party member, Dr Ting Tiong Choon as the State Assemblyman for Pujut.
This was pointed out by Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
“It is up to them (DAP) to challenge the decision in court, for them to say that the decision is wrong.
“It is also up to the Election Commission (EC) to decide on a date once the letter comes from the Speaker to say the seat is vacant,” he said when met by reporters during the State Legislative Assembly sitting here yesterday.
Meanwhile, Minister of Local Government and Housing, Datuk Dr. Sim Kui Hian yesterday accused the opposition of practising double standard when presenting their facts over the disqualification of Dr Ting Tiong Choon as the State Assemblyman for Pujut.
According to Sim, it was very unfair for both Kota Sentosa State Assemblyman, Chong Chieng Jen and Pujut State Assemblyman, Dr. Ting Tiong Choon to “drag him (Sim) along” in the unfortunate event for the opposition.
“Yes, I have spent 17 years in Australia as a high school student, a medical student and a specialist and after all that was done and over with, I came back straight to Sarawak.
“And when I came back, I served the people. I have worked in a public hospital and founded the heart centre for the people.
“There will always be people criticising me for what I do. For the opposition to even propose a motion for me to be disqualified is even worse,” said Sim.
