KUCHING: Kuching Auto Rad Show (KARS) took over the streets on Saturday night (May 13) with car enthusiasts from all over the city flocking to Sarawak Plaza to witness an impressive display of participating cars.
The event, which was organised by Fast Culture and supported by Retro Havoc and Motormaniac from Kuala Lumpur as well as Carcult from Bangkok, saw 182 participants showing their cars off to the public.
The event started at 10am and lasted until 11pm, with crowds starting to gather early in the day.
The highlight of the event was the exit show, where participating cars left the venue to take to the main streets.
The streets were packed with people eager to see the cars revving their engines and showing off their impressive backfires.
The area around Kuching Waterfront was also jammed with traffic, with Waze indicating that the congestion started from the Old Court House area up to the event venue.
Adib Azli, the organiser of the event, was thrilled with the turnout and the quality of the cars on display.
“The actual highlight of the show is to gather Kuching’s best collection of cars to share with our friends from outside Kuching, especially from Bangkok and KL.
“We wanted to display and showcase our car culture and car community,” he said to New Sarawak Tribune.
There was an impressive range of cars on display, including classics, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) cars, almost stock cars, K-Cars (light automobile), Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) cars, and many more.
Adib also thanked the participants, mostly from the car groups, who helped gather their friends to join the event.
The event was an open-concept car show with no filtering or selection process, allowing more than 50 per cent of participants to send in their cars without being selected.
The event featured five categories, with winners chosen by special guests’ favourites.
The winners will have the opportunity to travel with the organisers to KL for the 8th Annual Retro Havoc Car Show 2023 on May 27, with all expenses covered, including hotel and flight tickets, and pocket money of RM500.
Participants came from far and wide, some from as far away as Miri.
Adib said there were three trailers from Miri, bringing nine cars to the event, while participants also came from Bintulu and Sibu.
The KARS 2023 event was a massive success and the organisers hope to continue bringing together car enthusiasts from across the region to share their love for cars.
