MUKAH: The Melanau community’s iconic event, the Mukah Kaul Festival, this year will take place from April 22 to 28.

Meanwhile, Serahang Kakan Kaul will be held on April 20.

According to Balingian assemblyman, Abdul Yakub Arbi, who is also chairman of Mukah Melanau Association, the date has been agreed by the Federation of Sarawak Melanau Associations (PPMS) Committee.

“The Kaul Festival this time is different from previous years. This is because after studying the last impact study, there are some improvements and organisations this time,” he said.

He said this to reporters after the Mukah Kaul 2024 Committee Meeting, at the New Administration Building Meeting Room, here, on Friday.

Commenting further, Yakub said that this time around, they will pay a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and Head of State Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

“We will invite the Premier for the opening ceremony of the Mukah Kaul Festival 2024 while the Yang di-Pertua Negeri is invited to attend the Keman Kaul Ceremony,” he explained.
