DALAT: The Kaul Oya Festival is set to return on April 19 to April 21.
Minister of Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the festival is being held again after four years of absence.
“Head of State Tun Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi are invited to officiate at the upcoming Kaul Oya Festival.
“Furthermore, the opening ceremony of the Coastal Erosion Control Fort in Kuala Oya and Lebuk Kaul will also be held,” she said.
She said this to reporters during a press conference after the Kaul Oya festival meeting at the Dalat Welfare Complex meeting room, here yesterday.
Fatimah who is also the Dalat assemblywoman said a procession along the river carrying ‘Serahang’ from Pekan Sabtu to the Kaul Oya site will also be held later.
“The distance from Pekan Sabtu to the Kaul site is 2.2 kilometres. This is a traditional event carried out during the Kaul festival,” she said.
Additionally, throughout the Kaul Oya Festival, an exhibition of Melanau arts and heritage such as food, games, traditional medicine, clothing, and Melanau music will also be held.
