MIRI: Sarawak Kayan Association (Persatuan Kayan Sarawak – PKS) will hold its triennial general meeting (TGM) this coming Feb 22 at Dynasty Hotel Miri.
More than 110 delegates and observers representing seven branches throughout Sarawak and its central executive committee are expected to attend.
The last triennial meeting was held in 2016, also in Miri.
PKS was set up more than 10 years ago and has active membership of close to 2,000 members.
The association was set up with several primary objectives, among them to represent the community to be part of the state’s development. It has grown from strength to strength, and has been various contributions towards the development of the state.
The association has managed to enhance rapport among the various sub-groups of Kayans who are mostly found in Baram, Belaga, Asap and Tubau.
Its current president is Telang Usan assemblymen Dennis Ngau who had held the position for the last two terms after taking over from the founding president Lah Jau Uyo.
PKS is also a founding member of the Federation of Orang Ulu Association Sarawak Malaysia (FORUM) where Dennis is one of the vice presidents.
Last year it successfully hosted a community dinner attended by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and more than 1,400 guests.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Sabastian Ting is expected to officiate at the TGM.
Also invited to the opening ceremony are community leaders and Councillors.
