MIRI: The Women’s Association of Kayan Telang Usan (Doh Kayan Telang Usan, or DKTU) celebrated its eighth anniversary on Sunday with a charity initiative aimed at supporting kidney patients in need of dialysis.
A total of 20 beneficiaries of the ‘DKTU Care For You’ initiative received cash donations, reflecting the organisation’s dedication to welfare support.
The contributions were presented by Mohammed Kamaluddin Mohd Effendie, political secretary to the Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development, on behalf of Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
“This assistance is targeted at all walks of life, regardless of gender, background, or specific community. This step clearly reflects DKTU’s concern for the welfare and socioeconomic well-being of the general public,” said Nancy in her speech, which was read by Mohammed Kamaluddin.
She commended the association’s commitment to easing the burden of vulnerable community members through initiatives like ‘DKTU Care For You,’ adding that it bolsters a spirit of ‘charity without borders.’
Nancy also praised DKTU’s active role over the years in empowering women and advancing community welfare.
Since its inception, the association has organised a range of programmes, including lectures, seminars, and workshops, aimed at enriching the lives of women and the wider community.
“Every year, we can see (through social media and mass media channels) that DKTU often conducts programmes that benefit the local community,” she added.
More than 500 members gathered for the anniversary celebration, joined by Telang Usan assemblyman Datuk Dennis Ngau and Kayan community leader Temenggong Elizabeth Deng.
During the event, DKTU also received a financial allocation of RM20,000 from Ngau for the association’s charitable activities.
