KUCHING: Kuching Badminton Association (KBA) participated in the 1st leg of Sarawak Energy Badminton Tournament held at Miri from March 29 to 31.

A total of 23 participants from 10 to 17 years old who took part in the Under 12, Under 15 and Under 19 categories of the tournament returned with a very fruitful outing.

Sarawak Sport Corporation CEO and Director of Sarawak State Sports Council, Dr Ong Kong Swee welcomed the players and congratulated them for their achievement at Stampark Badminton Hall, BDC yesterday.

Head coach and Youth Development coach for KBA, Johnny Ng said the overall results are very encouraging and urged the players to strive harder to achieve the vision for 2020.

He also thanked Sarawak Sports Corporation and Sarawak Sports Council for supporting their event.

Ong commended the players on their excellent performances and praised the players’ attitude in training and during competition.

He advised them not to stop here but to work hard to achieve their goal as other players are also working very hard to achieve their goal.

Ong stressed that all others centres of development, excellence and elite should follow the steps taken by the Kuching Badminton Association to produce talented badminton players from their programmes.

In future, centres that do not produce results will not be assisted by SSC or MSN and will likely be closed.

“We will be monitoring other centres not only on badminton but also others sports,” he added.
