KUCHING: KDH Kuching under-14 coach Akim Beghri praised his team’s performance after securing a 3-0 victory against Axis A, despite playing with just 10 men.
According to him, the challenge posed by their opponent left them scrambling for alternatives mid game, however the victory lap that came after the game ended left a sense of satisfaction to him and the players.
“It was a very difficult match. The opposition had a well-planned strategy, and they gave us a lot of problems.
“But we managed to score, and a 3-0 victory is more than we anticipated,” he told Sarawak Tribune after the semi-final win at the Sarawak State Stadium yesterday.
He highlighted and commended his team’s solid defensive play and overall strong performance despite the overwhelming pressure the team faced near game end.
“They played very well, with good defensive work. It was an engaging and a well-fought match.
“As the tension continued to flow with about 10 minutes remaining, I instructed the team to focus on maintaining ball possession to slow the game down and turn it in within our favour,” Akim explained.
Looking ahead, coach Akim stressed the importance of formulating and making preparations before the next game.
“We have a week left to work on our tactics, and in that spare time, we will need to focus on implementing some new strategies in our game plan,” he emphasized.
The 3-0 win marks a positive result for KDH Kuching as they continue to build momentum heading into the final.
KDH Kuching will face PFA Odin in the Petronas Youth Football Closed Tournament 2024 Under-14 final on Saturday (Nov 16) at the Sarawak State Stadium.
