KUCHING: The Lions Nursing Home will hold its annual food fair on Dec 1, from 8 am to 12 noon at its premises along Jalan Stutong, BDC here.
The non-profit organisation said the food fair aims to raise RM250,000 to support the home’s maintenance and operational needs, including upgrading CCTV systems, office equipment, and appliances such as washing machines.
“The home serves as a haven for elderly individuals incapacitated by non-infectious illnesses whose families are unable to provide adequate care.
“It offers nursing services, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation programmes to help residents regain physical independence,” it said in a statement.
Deputy Economy Minister and patron of the Lions Nursing Home Datuk Hanifah Taib will grace the event.
Established in 1992, Lions Nursing Home is the first professional care centre of its kind in Sarawak. It is a collaborative effort by 16 Lions Clubs from Kuching, Serian, Kota Santosa, and Kota Samarahan, with management provided by elected representatives from the clubs.
The facility also serves as a teaching unit for nursing and medical students, recognised for its high standards of geriatric care. Volunteers from the Lions and Leo programmes play a key role in augmenting the services provided by salaried staff.
Despite its mission to provide professional care, the home does not promote the institutionalisation of the elderly. Instead, it seeks to equip families with the skills and knowledge to eventually care for their loved ones at home.
The public is encouraged to support the food fair and enjoy offerings from over 90 stalls. Details about the fair can be obtained at 082-461493.
