KUCHING: The Palliative Care Ward of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) has received a new microwave oven, allowing family members to heat up non-halal food.
Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii and Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong have contributed a new microwave oven during their visit to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
“Some patients’ families reported to YB Violet that the palliative ward did not have a suitable microwave oven to heat up non-halal food,” said Dr Yii.
He acknowledged the complaint made and informed that his office and Violet Yong immediately purchased a new microwave oven for the ward to meet the needs of patients and their families.
He also disclosed that his office will allocate funds for the cancer ward in SGH to upgrade some facilities such as installation of curtains as well as upgrading the electrical equipment and refurbish other facilities in the ward.
“I have always paid attention to medical welfare issues in my constituency, especially Sarawak General Hospital, in the upgrades for hardware and software equipment so that medical staff can work efficiently and improve the quality of care for patients,” he said.
He added that his office has allocated substantial funds for medical equipment and supplies to SGH for the past two years.
“Last year alone, I allocated RM200,000 for my constituency to improve the nursing services, medical equipment and supplies such as pressure injury prevention equipment for patients, computers for head of nurses, and ergonomic chairs for nurses and medical staff at Sarawak General Hospital.
“Two years ago, my office also allocated funds for the purchase of more than 100 units of three-seater visitor chairs for Sarawak General Hospital, so that patients and their families can wait for treatment in a comfortable environment,” he said.
Dr Yii stated that that his office will continue to work with the Ministry of Health to optimise the benefits for SGH and government clinics in his constituency, allowing residents to receive high-quality medical and health services.
