The Community Development Department’s (Kemas) Potential Day serves as an essential platform for recognising and fostering the talents of young children from an early age, according to Saratok District officer Haron Mahidi.
He highlighted the significance of allowing children to showcase their abilities and potential through various competitions during the event.
Haron, who was representing Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri, made these remarks while officiating the Children’s Potential Day of Kemas Kindergarten Level Three here.
The event, which involves multiple locations concurrently, focuses on activities that highlight and develop the talents of children as young as four to five years old.
Haron underscored the pivotal roles of both community educators and parents in guiding, educating, and nurturing talent within children. “Moral and religious education from an early age should never be neglected as well.”
Event chairman and coordinator Latif Amit explained that the annual event assesses achievements and sharpens the talents of children, eventually representing Sarawak at the national level.
Various competitions were held, including storytelling, speech, dance, the Outstanding Child Award, bilal chilik, hufaz chilik, ustazah junior, and si chilik pintar.
This year saw 73 children participating from Sarikei, Tanjung Manis, Betong, Igan, Julau and Saratok.
Among the winners, Kemas Betong secured the male and female storytelling competition, dance competition, Outstanding Child Award, and junior ustazah category.
Kemas Igan excelled in the speech competition, while Kemas Sarikei shone in the small and smart children event.
As the host, Kemas Saratok emerged as the champion in the small bilal event. Kemas officer of Betong Division, Jeffry Lana, was also in attendance.
