KUCHING: The Community Development Department (Kemas) plays an important role in contributing to the development of the state, especially in the aspect of human capital.
In stating this Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said Kemas is a pioneer in early childhood education in the country.
“I am satisfied with the role of Kemas …it has given early childhood education opportunities regardless where in Sarawak be it in urban or rural areas,” he said.
He said this while receiving a visit from the top management of Kemas Sarawak at Wisma Sumber Alam.
He assured that the Sarawak government would always provide support in any effort undertaken by Kemas for the well-being and prosperity of the people in this region.
Awang Tengah also revealed that the Sarawak government is now focusing on the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), in addition to empowering Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education to produce human capital to support Sarawak’s development initiatives.
“Sarawak is also about to establish the first artificial intelligence (AI) centre in the state,” he said.
The visit led by Kemas Deputy Director General (Operations) Zairuddin Mat Zuini, aimed to introduce the new Sarawak Kemas Director, namely Anisah Saidin.
Anisah replaces Khairuddin Md Nasir who has moved to Putrajaya as Kemas Director of Policy and Strategic Planning.
