KUCHING: Approximately 40 media practitioners from throughout the country are taking part in the three-day “Kembara Batang Lupar 2017”programme organised by the federal Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development.
The flagging off ceremony was attended by its minister, Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim, who is also the Member of Parliament for Batang Lupar, as well as Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Uggah praised the programme, saying that it exposed the media from all over the nation to what Barisan Nasional (BN) had done to improve the living standards of those living in the rural areas. “Various programmes have been carried out to help those in need and to ensure that they can also be involved in developing the state,” he said during the flagging off ceremony at Pullman Hotel here yesterday.
Uggah, who is also the Minister of Modernisation of Agriculture, Nat i v e Land and Re g iona l Development, said that the participants would be staying in longhouses in Batang Lupar to familiarise themselves with the local way of life. “With this, they will know the culture and way of life of the people in the area. “Their words and experiences can also help to attract tourists here,” he told reporters. The programme will end on Wednesday.
