KUCHING: The EDU Charity Run 2024 “Kenyalang Fly” to be hosted by the SK Kenyalang’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), aims to raise RM350,000 for building a High Roof Covered Basketball Court and enhancing school infrastructure, including classroom facilities.
According to chairperson of the PTA Khoon Pei Yen, the run is supported by the 38 Yayasan Amal Cinta, Datuk Seri Ho Kim Hee, Datuk Seri Chan Leng Sam and Datuk Seri Voon Thien Loong, together with co-organiser, Kuching Love Book Association.
“The run shall be flagged off on May 5 at 6.30 am at Kuching City South Hall (MBKS). There are two categories for the run which are 3km and 5km with a registration fee of RM50 per participation.
“The High Roof Covered Basketball Court is urgently needed so that pupils in the afternoon session have a comfortable place to carry out Physical Education lessons,” she said in a press release today.
She added that SK Kenyalang is often misunderstood by the public as a national type school (SK). However, the school administration would like to seek public clarification that SK Kenyalang’s status is Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJK (C)) which has both Chinese and Malay streams.
“We hope that the general public and community will encourage more students to enrol and study here in order to increase the students’ enrolment for our Chinese stream classes,” she added.
She extended her gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of the event, with special thanks to the main sponsor, 38 Yayasan Amal Cinta, for their RM40,000 contribution towards the running expenses. A total of 2,000 supporters and participants are expected to join the event.
According to her, the success of the event hinges upon one crucial element which is participation. Up until today, the event participation is still a distance away from the targeted amount.
Therefore, the registration period has been extended for two weeks until April 5.
