MUKAH: An open chess competition will be held at Polytechnic Mukah Sarawak(PMU) here from 21 to 22 April.
The venue of the event, Kenyalang Chess PMU Open Chess Tournament 2018, is at the multi-purpose hall of this institution of higher learning (IPT).
The two-day competition is divided into several categories, namely, Open Category, IPT, Under-16, and Under-12.
With the format of “15 Min + 10 second increment” and 11-round Swiss system,the event is limited to 250 players only.
The closing date for registration is April 16. It is on “first come first serve” basis. The registration fees are RM30 (PMU/Students-local Mukah), RM50 (Local Mukah & Malaysian with FIDE Rating), RM60(Malaysian with no FIDE Rating) and RM120 (for Non Malaysians).
Prizes for the champion in the open category is RM1,500 + trophy, for the second Place, RM1,200 + trophy, and third, RM1,000 + trophy.
There will also be prizes for fourth until tenth spots, and also for the Best Woman, Best Veteran, Best Government Staff and Best Private Staff.
For the IPT, the winner will get RM300 plus trophy, second place (RM200+trophy), third place (RM100 + trophy) and fourth & fifth, (RM50 + medal) each.
For the Under-16 and Under-12, the champion gets RM200 plus trophy, 2nd place (RM150+trophy), 3rd (RM100+trophy) and 4th & 5th, (RM50 + medal) each.
Besides it, there would be prizes in the form of hampers and medals, namely, for the Best Boy(U8), Best Girl(U8), Best Man(Local-Mukah), Best Woman(Local-Mukah) and Best PMU.
