KUCHING: Sarawak’s lawn bowlers had a mixed day of results, but their key players made it to the semi-finals, hitting their targets in both the men’s pairs and women’s singles categories.
In the quarter-finals, Sarawak’s men’s pair of Mohammad Aryan Nazrullah Nazaruddin and Muhammad Ramadhan Mohamad Jeffy, delivered a dominant performance, defeating Pahang’s Harrish Khusairy Abdul Khalil and Muhamad Ammar Mazlizal with a decisive 19-7 victory to advance to the semi-finals.
Meanwhile, in the women’s singles, Dayang Nur Alia Sharmiela automatically advanced to the semi-finals thanks to her solid performance.
Sarawak head coach Nur Fithri Yaani Hamdin expressed satisfaction with the team’s overall performance despite a slow start in the morning.
“We’ve achieved what we set out to do, particularly in securing semi-finals qualification. Now, it’s time to refocus and prepare for the next challenge,” she told reporters after the quarter-finals at the Sarawak Lawn Bowls Arena.
The day began positively at 8.30am with the men’s pairs securing a 17-10 win against Melaka in Group D.
However, the women’s fours team encountered difficulties, losing 9-16 to Terengganu in Group Q during the 10.30am match.
The women’s singles player delivered a solid performance, securing a 17-6 win against Terengganu in Group J.
Unfortunately, the afternoon matches saw Sarawak’s men’s pairs fall short in a close contest, losing 18-21 to Sabah in Group D at 1pm, while the men’s triples team suffered a 9-22 defeat against Negeri Sembilan in Group F.
As the tournament progresses, the qualifying teams will now prepare to compete for a place in the finals tomorrow.
