KUALA LUMPUR: Beluran Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee today rapped the Kinabatangan Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin who regarded Members of Parliaments who jumped parties as immoral and unprincipled.
Regarding the allegation made as being political in nature, Kiandee said Bung Moktar was actually aware of the history of Umno in Sabah which was formed resulting from those who jumped party.
“The Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno government headed by Umno in 1994 comprised those who jumped from Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) to Umno and supported BN which resulted in the setting up of the Umno-BN government.
“As such, when it is said that we are immoral, I regard it as a political statement because the Member of Parliament for Kinabatangan also understands that Umno too is immoral for taking members who jumped party. Umno had also included those who changed parties in the government until 2018,’’ he said when debating on the motion of thanks to the speech of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in Dewan Rakyat today.
Bung Moktar, when debating the same motion today, said those who jumped parties were considered as not having a struggle, no strength and immoral.
Kiandee did not agree with the opinion that the people would punish those who changed party at the coming general election if they were renominated as candidates because the history of Sabah proved that those who jumped party were still picked by the voters.
In fact, Kiandee, who joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) on March 15, wanted the people to evaluate themselves the action of the massed hegira of former members of Sabah Umno.
“If Beluran jumped party alone, maybe it can be seen as a personal reason, but if it is a massed hegira, it requires a soul searching, what is the cause resulting in so many of Umno members in Sabah jumping the party which almost crippled the party’s liaison body in the state,’’ he said. – Bernama
