KUCHING: Former Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar highlighted the key roles of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA) Sultan Ibrahim and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in potentially securing political stability in the country.
KJ, as he is better known, stressed that the enduring presence of Sultan Ibrahim and Premier Abang Jo could sustain the current federal government for the next four years amid the prevailing political divisions.
Speaking on the Keluar Sekejap podcast aired live during the Malaysia Market Outlook 2024: Propelling Malaysia Forward on Jan 30, he highlighted the significance of fostering strong relations between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Sultan Ibrahim to bolster political stability.
Stressing Sarawak’s key role, KJ stressed Abang Jo’s firm stance against political manoeuvrings detrimental to the stability of the government, emphasising Sarawak’s importance as a linchpin within the coalition.
“In today’s situation, where political stability is very divided, we have had the Dubai Move; we have so many moves that the role and the position of the YDPA is seen very differently.
“So of course, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wants to make sure that he has a good relationship with Sultan Ibrahim.
“Because, if there is anything that can unlock the political stability that we have today is of course the YDPA and the Premier of Sarawak,” he said.
That is why, he noted, Abang Johari has come very forcefully by saying that he does not want to entertain, he doesn’t want to listen to the story of Dubai Move.
Acknowledging Sarawak’s favorable standing within the unity government, KJ expressed confidence in the government’s stability for the next four years, subject to the Anwar’s adept handling of Sarawak’s interests and diplomatic relations with Istana Negara.
