Kita Festival showcases Sarawak’s rich culinary and cultural heritage

KUCHING: The Kita Festival has the potential to highlight the unique and significant culinary and cultural heritage of Sarawak.

Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii said the food festival can promote Sarawak’s culture and at the same time strengthen relations between the ethnic groups in the state.

“Among the festivals that are organised, food festivals are one of the events that receive great attention and participation.

“Therefore, I believe food festivals have a significant and positive influence on the development of our community and society.

“This festival will contribute to the growth of the local economy and it has been recognised as an effective effort in promoting and boosting local tourism,” he said.

He said this at the Kita Festival opening ceremony here on Monday (Oct 7).

At the same event, he also announced a donation to the Kota Padawan Development Movers Association, the event organiser.

Meanwhile, Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang said that Kita Fest means “Unity is Us.”

According to him, the community needs to play a role in upholding the spirit of unity, and through such programs, relationships can be strengthened.
