KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg vision will see him being remembered as a consequential leader for Sarawak says Khairy Jamaluddin.

The Keluar Sekejap podcast host said this during an episode with the Premier which aired on Monday (July 22).

“Your leadership (sic), I don’t like to use this term lightly, but God willing if even half of your vision is able to be implemented, you will be remembered as a consequential leader.

“Consequential means the impact will resonate through generations to come because you have the vision and the clarity of thought and you have the ability to use the political opportunity,” he said.

To which Abang Johari replied in jest, “I am not an opportunist,” only for Khairy to respond: “I did not use that word (opportunist), but you use the political opportunity as any politicians do for Sarawak”.

Khairy hoped that Sarawak will continue to provide political stability to Malaysia where stability is not evident in other places.

“Because this is the time for Sarawak and we hope that your plan will materialise for the sake of Malaysia and for the sake of Sarawak to remain in Malaysia,” he said.

Earlier, Khairy described Abang Johari as being the second most influential person in Malaysia politics after the prime minister.

“If I want to rank the most powerful figures in the nation’s politics, my number two would probably be the Premier of Sarawak because the key to the government of today and possibly even after the next general election is with the Premier,” he said.

Abang Johari, in the nearly two-hour podcast session, spoke about his background in politics, the relationship between Sarawak and Putrajaya, his economic policies and both domestic and international politics.
