PORT DICKSON: Kuala Lumpur Metro Group (KL Metro) expects its new five-star above water resort, Lexis Hibiscus 2, to be completed by 2024.
Chairman Datuk Mat Hassan Esa said construction will begin at the end of next year next to Lexis Hibiscus, with an expected gross development value of RM500 million.
“The project is a collaboration with Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) and we are grateful for being given another opportunity to collaborate with Lexis Hotel Group in this latest iconic project, which comprises 760 villas with swimming pools including 582 villas above water and 178 sky pool villas besides a personal swimming pool in each room.
“This luxury villa project contributes to the local community by creating about 3,000 job opportunities from the start until the end of its construction,” he said at the signing of the collaboration agreement with the Negeri Sembilan MBI here on Saturday.
It was signed by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun and KL Metro managing director Datuk Low Tak Fatt, and witnessed by Port Dickson MP Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Mat Hassan said the project will also feature a submerged aquarium with its own
restaurant.
Lexis Hibiscus 2 is expected to attract 400,000 visitors to Port Dickson every year and generate annual tourism revenue of RM240 million with each tourist spending RM600 for a night’s accommodation, he noted.
“We are confident Lexis Hotel Group can not only help Lexis Hibiscus 2 achieve similar success to Lexis Hibiscus but also outdo it as the world’s biggest above water resort development.
“When completed, we are confident Lexis Hibiscus 2 will not only strengthen the Lexis brand but also raise the tourism profile of Port Dickson as an international tourism destination attracting 400,000 visitors a year,” he said.
He added that the company will also collaborate with the government in promoting tourism in Port Dickson.
Meanwhile, Aminuddin said the state government is allocating 80 acres (32.4 hectares) of land for the previously-postponed project.
“The project on state government land was approved by the previous administration, but the Pakatan Harapan administration decided to review the agreement due to certain issues including the welfare of fishermen.
“Under the new agreement, the developer must pay RM12 million in compensation to 42 fishing families with each household receiving RM1,000 a month when construction begins next year,” he said, adding the state government will get 20 percent of the hotel’s profit every year. – Bernama
