SIMANGGANG: The Jalur Gemilang Merdeka Campaign (KMJG) of the Malaysian Information Department (JaPen) Sarawak came to an end on Sept 16.
The third phase of the KMJG 2024 convoy had passed through Sibu, Balingian, Mukah, Matu, Daro, Song, Kanowit, Sarikei, Meradong, Julau, Saratok, Betong, Sri Aman, and Lubok Antu, beginning Sept 7.
Its mission was to convey the message of statehood and independence to the people of Sarawak, encouraging the public to fly the Jalur Gemilang across the state.
During the 10-day tour, the team distributed Jalur Gemilang flags to the public and traders, installed flags on public vehicles, displayed them in schools and villages, and encouraged the public to fly the Jalur Gemilang leading up to the Malaysia Day celebration.
Additionally, the Pentarama X Kelab Malaysiaku event provided entertainment, particularly for school students, aimed at increasing their knowledge of the state’s history and instilling patriotism.
Reciting the pledge of allegiance was also a key part of every programme throughout the KMJG convoy’s journey across Sarawak.
JaPen also organised field trips with Madani communities in each district, including visits to the longhouses.
The finale of the KMJG 2024 took place at the Sri Aman Indoor Stadium on Sept 16, with the handing over of the Jalur Gemilang by Sarawak Information Director Helmy Hamid to Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
This was in conjunction with the Sarawak-level Malaysia Day celebration, themed ‘Malaysia Madani, Jiwa Merdeka,’ with the slogan ‘Segulai Sejalai.’
The Royal Malaysian Navy (RLDM) raised the Jalur Gemilang while the Negaraku was played by the Royal Malaysian Police Band, symbolising the country’s majesty and sovereignty.
The KMJG convoy completed all three phases of its Sarawak exploration via the Pan Borneo Highway. Phase I began on Aug 3 at Kuching CIBD Hall, Phase II concluded in Sibu on Aug 31 and Phase III ended in Sri Aman.
