MUKAH: The local cooperative, Koperasi Desa Lestari Tellian Tengah dan Ulu Mukah Berhad (KODELT) was named as one of the successful ones in the area. In lauding the success, Cooperative College of Malaysia (MKM) Sarawak Zone Director, Siti Maimunah Jerni, hoped cooperative related activities in the division could emulate it’s (KODELT’s). “I hope the cooperative related activities in Mukah Division would grow progressively in future to assist the development of the economy of the local community.
This expectation is made based on the success story of KODELT,” she said The seven-year-old KODELT has over 250 registered members and is involved in the provision of transportation services through eleven 20-ton lorries.
As such, she added that MKM placed a high expectation that they could help in producing a successful cooperative in the area on par with KODELT. Maimunah stated this while speaking at the cooperative enhancement programme called `Program Lestari Modal Insan Koperasi held at Dewan Suarah Mesra, in Mukah over the weekend.
The one-day event attended by over 250 participants was officially closed by Mukah Member of Parliament, Tan Sri Dr Muhammad Leo Toyad. She pointed out that the cooperative should work closely with the community because its existence was also meant for the community.
“The cooperative also contribute towards the national Gross Domestic Product. And last year a total of 85 similar programmes were held throughout the nation. Its objectives, among others was to have close rank with the local community especially for the its (community’s) development,” she added.
Maimunah disclosed that Mukah was the sixth from the eleven programme stations organised by MKM, after BIntulu, Miri and other divisions in the state.
