Korean Ambassador hails Sarawak’s investor-friendly advantage

BINTULU: Sarawak remains an appealing choice for foreign investors, including those from the Republic of Korea.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Malaysia, Yeo Seung Bae, said that the state has favourable policies and a range of facilities that can facilitate the participation of foreign investors.

During his meeting with OCIM Sdn Bhd and Samsung Engineering representatives, he discovered that Sarawak offers a stable and competitive electricity supply infrastructure, specifically tailored to meet industrial needs.

“Moreover, Sarawak possesses abundant natural resources and favourable geographical advantages, such as well-equipped port facilities,” he said to reporters here on Monday.

Yeo made his inaugural official visit to Sarawak, with the purpose of understanding the factors that contribute to the state’s appeal as an investment destination for South Korean companies on a global scale.

Furthermore, he engaged in discussions regarding the challenges faced by OCIM in their efforts to develop their plants in the region, which primarily revolved around the requirement for additional electricity supply and skilled labour.

“The concerns raised by Samsung Engineering pertained to delays in visa processing,” he added.

“I hope that Sarawak will take the necessary actions to address these issues.”

Earlier, Yeo and his delegation visited the Samalaju Industrial Park, where they received updates on the progress of OCIM and its activities.

Additionally, the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) provided a comprehensive briefing on the Samalaju Industrial Park and the investors present in the region, followed by a tour of the OCIM plants.

Subsequently, they proceeded to Petchem, where Yeo received a briefing and observed the progress of projects undertaken by Samsung Engineering.

At 7:15 p.m., Yeo departed for Kuching, where he would continue his working visit the following day.

Among those present were were Commercial Attaché of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Malaysia, Lim Chaeuk; First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Malaysia, Yoo Jihan; Second Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Malaysia, Shin Hyeongu; and Deputy Resident of the Bintulu Division, Abang Zainuddin Abang Turkey.
