KUCHING: About 1,000 Christians from various church denominations are expected to come together for the inaugural Christmas parade in the Kota Sentosa constituency.
To be held on Sunday (Dec 10) the event has drawn participation from ten churches here.
Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap said it is a joint effort between his service centre and the Sarawak Evangelical Christian Association (SECA).
“The first-ever Christmas parade specifically for Kota Sentosa will take place in the 7th Mile Market area.
“Participants will gather at 6pm before the parade starts, and we welcome anyone who wants to participate in making this event joyful,” he said at the Kota Sentosa Service Centre on Dec 7.
He said the parade seeks to convey a message of peace and simultaneously celebrate the unity among people, religions, and cultures in Sarawak.
In a related development, he disclosed an additional initiative aimed at energising the Kota Sentosa area which will focus on engaging the local youth.
“In conjunction with the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (Saberkas), we will organise the Saberkas Carnival Kota Sentosa 2024.
“This carnival will take place on March 10, 2024, at the Aeroville shopping centre and will start as early as 7am,” he said.
He added that the carnival is designed to inspire today’s youth to participate in wholesome and active pursuits, fostering stronger bonds of friendship among them.
“Various interesting events are planned, including cultural dance performances, youth idol competitions, and beauty queen contests, as well as car boot sales with a bazaar concept and much more.
“This sales activity aims to encourage young people to engage in business by selling their creative handcrafted products, second-hand goods, and much more,” he said.
