KUCHING: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sarawak is ramping up efforts to ensure transparency and combat the misappropriation of subsidised diesel fuel across the state.
KPDN Sarawak enforcement chief Peter J Berinus Agang said the ministry is actively working with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to address these pressing issues.
“We have detained the lorries and drivers involved in the ongoing investigation triggered by the recent oil spills along Jalan Kulas near the Satok flyover and Mile 9 Jalan Kuching-Serian here on Mar 25.
“The truck responsible for the spill was discovered to have a tank loaded with subsidised diesel fuel. Consequently, these lorries are currently under the investigation of KPDN Sarawak.
“Whatever the outcome, we will keep the public informed,” he said.
He made these remarks when met by reporters after officiating the Rahmah Sales programme (PJR) at Masjid Jamek, Petra Jaya here today (Apr 7).
He also assured the public that regular monitoring measures are in place to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Meanwhile, Agang disclosed that KPDN Sarawak has conducted inspections at 24,000 premises state-wide, resulting in the seizure of RM13 million worth of controlled items, including oil-related products.
He further noted that the ministry has prosecuted approximately 40,000 cases from Jan 1 to last Friday (Apr 5).
