KUCHING: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) launched the state-level Festive Season Price-Control Scheme (SKHMP) in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.
At the launching ceremony at Mydin Petra Jaya here yesterday, state KPDNKK director, Dato’ Stanley Tan said the scheme is effective immediately until 22 June 2018.
“The affected goods are to be sold at a lower price determined by the government and are required to display the pink price tag to help consumers differentiate the goods.
“Traders are also reminded that action will be taken against them if they do not adhere to the laws under this scheme,” he said during a press conference.
He added that in an effort to protect consumers, the ministry will increase patrolling and monitoring activities by its enforcement officers in areas that are frequently visited by the public.
“The ministry will strengthen price monitoring with the cooperation of various parties such as through the price monitoring officers, Friends of KPDNKK (FOK), state government, and relevant agencies.
“At the same time, the ministry will prepare various channels for consumers to use to air their complaints should they have any,” he said.
He also advised the public to inform them if there are traders who don’t comply with the scheme by calling the 1Malaysia One Call Centre at 03 8000 8000 or the toll-free line at 03 8882 6245/6088.
The items listed under the scheme are chicken (live, standard, and super), imported beef, chicken eggs (grades A, B, and C), red chilli, tomato, imported round cabbage (Indonesia and China, not including Beijing), coconut (whole and grated), shallot (India), imported onion, garlic (China), imported potato (China), Indian mackerel (weight ranges between 7 to 10 fish per kg), and scad (weight ranges between 7 to 10 fish per kg).
