KUCHING: No case was recorded involving price controlled goods and price tag during a spot check conducted by the state Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism (KPDNKK) from 17 May to 27 May.

This was announced by State KPDNKK deputy director, Mohd Nawawi Abdul Rahman during an interview by the media after a spot check at Kota Sentosa Bazaar Ramadan near here, yesterday.

The spot check was held throughout the state involving 2,965 food premises during the Ramadan season. “We want consumers to be alert with the increase in price during this festive season. Until today (yesterday) there is still no case recorded and in conjunction with the Gawai festival, we also will monitor the price of goods from time to time so that their prices are under control.

“We have 197 officers on the ground to do the monitoring especially on 40 items which we expect will become the focus for consumers,” he said.

Meanwhile, on the recent complaints regarding the increase in price of goods, Nawawi said the price of the items was according to the world market price. “To date, there is an increase in only 83 items while 111 items have dropped in price and we believe the trend will continue,” he said.
