SRI AMAN: Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (KPDNKK) Sri Aman branch has come up with a case involving the confiscation of discs sold without the optic label.
Branch chief Thomas Chua said such confiscations were done during their enforcement done on a business premise in Saratok town on 29 March. They made the confiscation under the Trade Description Act 2011.
“In this case, a total of 846 units of CD and DVD of Dayak artistes were confiscated by KPDNKK Sri Aman with a total worth of RM7,396.40.
“This case will be probed further. We treat this case seriously in view of their total disregard for the law on piracy involving local artistes,” he said during a press conference held at the KPDNKK Sri Aman yesterday.
He also advised consumers to play their role in tackling this issue. They should report or provide useful information pertaining to these activities.
Thomas said hitherto they had come up with15 cases committed under different Acts with a total worth of RM25,580.02 compared to 77 cases worth a total of RM199,508.45 for last year.
“This year we have issued eight notices under the Trade Description Act 2011 to business premises,” said Thomas.
He reiterated that consumers must know their rights and to be easily cheated by traders.
“Consumers can call them directly on 083-323836 or on Hotline 1800-886-800 in cases they have something to report to KPDNKK in Sri Aman,” he said.
