KUCHING: Kpg Bako is a gem that needs to be polished as it has the potential to boost the tourism industry in the state.
In stating this, Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah urged the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) to have a broad mind on how to uplift the village.
He added that to attract more tourists into the area, the village would need to have facilities that could facilitate the needs of the visitors such as public toilets, clean mosque areas, and many others.
“And this requires great cooperation from the people in the area. Moreover, when we talk about the tourism industry, it does not only consist of the scenery of what we have in the state but also of the products being sold.
“As this village has a lot to offer including its tourism products, we will definitely be able to attract more tourists to come,” he said when officiating at the Suntong Festival opening ceremony at Kpg Bako here Tuesday.
He suggested that the booths in the area be upgraded to bigger ones by using Sarawak funding, and not the Minor Rural Project (MRP) funds given to the elected representative.
“Bring the proposal of the upgrade to the Premier and upgrade what is needed including the infrastructure to facilitate the people here, visitors, and tourists who come here.
“When they see that the booths and the infrastructure are in a good condition, they will definitely be impressed by it.
“That is why it is important for Kpg Bako to be polished with sustainable planning and programmes for the people in the area and visitors here,” he said.
