LIMBANG: The Kampung Meritam Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) has been appointed as the management operator for Meritam Bebuak Recreational Park.

Walikota of Limbang District Council, Sufian Mohat stated that the council had discussed the matter with Kampung Meritam JKKK.

“This is to provide opportunities for the village residents to generate income and create job opportunities. Despite their lack of experience and knowledge, JKKK has been given the responsibility as the operator to manage this area, and indirectly, they will learn about management matters.

“This area is gaining recognition and becoming a major attraction for tourists to the Limbang District,” he said.

He said this during the Handover Ceremony of the Operator for the Management of Meritam Bebuak Recreational Park here on Wednesday.

Elaborating further, he mentioned that this area is not only visited by local residents but also by people from Brunei and outside visitors.

“Considering the tourism potential in this area, the government has upgraded various facilities such as bridges, huts, restrooms, bathing areas, and other amenities.

“Therefore, improvements will be continually made by the government for visitors’ convenience, including the implementation of projects under the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA),” he explained.

Touching on the issue of low water pressure in the Bebuak Swamp area, he informed that the Limbang District Council has made a request to Bukit Kota assemblyman Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman Ismail to upgrade the water supply system.

This will be done using the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), with an estimated cost of RM200,000.
Therefore, he hopes that the project can be implemented this year to address the water pressure issue.
