SIBU: Kampung Nangka here stands as a model of community unity and an extraordinary blend of diverse races and religions living in harmony.
Nangka assemblyman Datuk Dr. Annuar Rapaee highlighted this unique coexistence in his recent visit to the village.
“Kampung Nangka is a testament to peaceful living, where different religions not only coexist but celebrate each other’s traditions,” he said at a Christmas party hosted by the Kampung Nangka Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) on Thursday.
He shared examples of families celebrating Christmas and Hari Raya together without religious conflicts in the village.
Dr. Annuar, who is also the Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development, praised the villagers’ mutual respect for each other’s faiths.
“This mutual respect is the foundation of peace. As a Christian respects a Muslim, so does a Muslim respect a Christian,” he said.
However, Dr. Annuar expressed concern over the misuse of religion for political gains and divisions. He invited outsiders to visit Kampung Nangka to witness its harmonious interfaith dynamics, especially during communal events like weddings or funerals.
He urged the village community to continue nurturing their peaceful coexistence.
“Kampung Nangka deserves recognition as Malaysia’s most united village,” he suggested.
Dr. Annuar also addressed the villagers’ concerns, encouraging them to seek help from community leaders or himself. “While I cannot solve every issue, I am committed to doing my best to assist,” he reassured.
