KUCHING: The 8th edition of Gawai Tematu Carnival and ‘Bitanding Dayung Gawea Tematu’ 2023 is scheduled to take place from May 26 to 27 at Kampung Tematu Community Hall here.
Co-organised with WAIfm Bidayuh, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), the carnival will also feature local Bidayuh artistes namely Amy Disien, Claudia Geres, Mike Rantai and Bell Sky Night to enliven the event.
Among the highlights tomorrow (May 26) are the ‘Onak Dayung Gawea Tematu’, ‘Sindok Gawea Tematu’, Miss Talent and Miss Best Contemporary Dress Dayung Gawea Tematu competitions. Results for each category will be announced on the same night as well.
Meanwhile, the highlight on Saturday night (May 27) will see the finale of Dayung Gawea Tematu 2023.
Among the other activities held throughout the carnival will be Zumba, sports activities and handicraft competitions namely ‘Jumbuak Pingutuem’, ‘Tapan Butal’ and ‘Trusan’. There will also be stalls selling food and drinks, traditional clothes and agricultural produce.
In addition, there will also be a health and dental check-up as well as exhibitions from various government agencies.
Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian and Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan are expected to attend the carnival on Saturday night (May 27).
